Hello everyone

I have several questions regarding plotting and printing sheets form Revit which, I hope, many can relate.

Why I can't add custom paper size for PDF format in Revit using Microsoft Office Print to PDF?

Why I can't choose Adobe Acrobat as a printer device in order to plot sheet in PDF?

Currently, I am using CutePDF Writer as a printer, which I am not familiar with, and I would ask, is it widely used by Revit users here to plot PDF formats and, if the custom papers size is added in the PostScript Custom Page Size?

Hi,

you cannot add custom paper size in Revit because it is functionality of PDF printers, not Revit. You have to find a PDF printer, that allows you to create custom paper sizes and set these sizes in settings of this printer. Microsoft Print to PDF doesn't allow you to create custom paper sizes, which is a shame because it works otherwise quite well for me.

New Revit 2022 might solve your problem - new native PDF export enables you to export PDF adjusted to sheet size. So any size is possible.

I am not able to use Adobe as a printing device even though I have it installed.

Any idea how to add it in Revit?

any PDF "printer" will show up the same way as a physical paper-printer shows up. I don't have Adobe, but assume you need to use the paid writer version. If you have it installed, it will show up in the printer settings.

I used Bluebeam as PDF printer, but now use the 2022 PDF feature oob.

Registry, the GDP and Printer Schema but it is not something which is recommendable that you do.

Why I can't choose Adobe Acrobat as a printer device in order to plot sheet in PDF? You most probably have downloaded Acrobat Reader. Adobe Acrobat reader does not have a PDF print Driver.

CutePDF is one of many free print drivers used over the past years, there are several well known paid, open source and free ones see links below

PS: In Revit 2022 Autodesk revived the built in PDR Print

In CutePDF, if I remember right, to add the custom paper size 

• Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Server Properties command on File menu
• Add the paper size on the Forms tab.
• When printing select matching paper size in Revit under Print dialogue >> Settings

If you want to add custom paper sizes to Microsoft Print to PDF then follow the instructions here.

I did it once on my PC then saved the txt file to the network and copied it to each PC that needed it.

Now, I am reading the reply bellow and I probably only have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.

@RDAOU  Thanks for the response! That will clear a lot of confusions. I probably only have Adobe Acrobat Reader. Is Adobe PDF printer for free?

No it is not, it only comes with the paid/subscription version

Adobe is not a great PDF editor. Many AEC professionals use Bluebeam (way outside just creating PDF). so if you just need to bit the bullet and pay, get at least something good.
