Custom Curtain Wall Profile Repeat

Hi Everyone,

I've just tired my hand at creating a custom curtain wall with a profile a bit like a clip lock arrangement. But when I import it into a project the profile doesn't repeat itself correctly across the whole wall. Anyone have any ideas how to change that?

Thanks!

Can you post the family, and a screenshot of your curtain wall type properties?

Yep sure can.

I see 2 problems:

1. Curtain Panel Family does not flex; it is 10' 6" period.

2. You haven't defined that 10' 6" (period) Vertical Grid Spacing in the System Family's Type Properties.

I am with @barthbradley on this one.

1. If the the panel length is fixed: create the panel family with the correct length as in project, create the correct number of standing seams.  You need to control the panel lengths in the project and make sure they are a fixed distance.  Anything off module needs another family.  I would not go with this approach.

2.  See below for an example:

That's how I approach metal building wall cladding. Like R-Panel or similar.

They come in fixed width sheets, so I model the panel as a fixed width. Then I create the curtain wall with no mullions at all, no horizontal grid at all, and 3' vertical grid spacing.

The only problem is that walls need to be some multiple of 3', or else you have to figure out a way to remove the "remainder" bit of panel at one end.

To reduce that problem, I modeled the panel as 1' fixed, since the 3' wide sheets have a 1' repeating pattern anyway. And changed the wall to 1' vertical grid spacing to match. Better.

@chrisplyler

You know you can add two voids at either ends in the family, outside of the panel, and lock their inside face to the left and right reference planes, respectively.  Make the void at least the same length as the panel, in your case, 3'-0".  Then when a panel in your project is less than 3'-0", it will be trimmed properly.

AHA!

So simple. Never even occurred to me. Thank-you very much!

@ToanDN

First of all thanks for the example you've uploaded.

I've tried to add two voids like you've said but I'm not sure I understand it correctly, since it doesn't work for me. When the length of my curtain wall isn't x times lenght of the fixed distance, an error will pop up.

"can't make type "..." -> "Delete type" -> "Missing curtain panels will be raplaced with system panels to complete command."

Could you upload an image of what you mean or maybe the family ?

Thanks!

Haven't found the solution yet, anyone who can help me out? :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht: @ToanDN @barthbradley Maybe?

Cheers
