Custom Ceiling Grid Pattern

so - i have been asked if there is a way to create a custom ceiling pattern - 10' of 24" then 1' of 12" and have it repeat.

like this:

I am thinking not but wanted to double check.

Thanks for your help!

I think you should be able to create a custom fill pattern, make a new ceiling type, and assign the fill pattern to it.

You can use Hatch22 by Mertens3d or another hatch editor to make the pattern.

It is entirely possible.  The attached PAT file has a pattern named Ceiling1 that will give you the desired grid pattern.  You will need to create a material that uses this fill pattern and then create a ceiling type that uses that material.

Hello David,

Letting you know that I appreciate you putting this file together as I was struggling with implementing my understanding of the coding portion of of my ceiling pattern. Mine is similar to what was requested. I adjusted it to be (1) 6 x 48 after (2) 24x48 ceiling tiles. See attached for your reference and use, though you'd be able to make it yourself quickly, but I wanted to give back a little.

Thanks again

Thread necromancer.....

There are a few free software tools to create patterns. but since our IT does not allow such, I had the opportunity to learn the hard way. Read on this:

https://pattycake.io/docs/d/pat-file-syntax-and-rules

https://pattycake.io/docs/d/pat-from-scratch-intro-tutorial

https://pattycake.io/new

I had a lighting project where the architects had used 4" wide recessed fixtures in 24x24 and 48x48 ceilings and the grid added the 4"strip. I attached those files and you can look at that and reverse-engineer to match your needs. For example, the 48x48 with lighting every 96" will have a grid line at 0, 48, 96, 100

Edit: It appears PAT files cannot be attached. I made them into TXT-files. So you need to change the TXT of the attached files to PAT

@HVAC-Novice Great to hear you found our guides helpful!!! 😎

I was in a similar boat with current softwares not being allowed at previous firms (...and also they were SILLY expensive...) -- so we started Pattycake out as a simple tool to visualize written PAT files without having to do the save/load/etc process in CAD/Revit. Basically streamline the writing process, and its obviously evolved since then.

@NOEL_MORENO , you can create a free account (nothing to download - all web based, no CC, etc) on Pattycake and write out your PAT file in our web browser and see how the numbers are changing the graphic in real time. Its much quicker than notepad. We also have a large library of free PAT files you can download too that many times are easier to adjust than write your own.

Web based & real time .PAT creator. The largest collection of free PAT files! Over 700+ Pat files ready to download
No plugins or add-ins to install, and Revit compliant!

Are you looking for something like this?

Snag_40dfd9.png

The Ceiling 6x48 24x48.pat file in the attached ZIP file generated that.
