Curtain walls kill Revit.

I am working on a school project. The Revit file size was around 250 Mb. The final step was to place some curtail walls. Not some a lot of curtain walls. Suddenly the file went over 2GB. Revit 2020 wasn't able anymore to save or open the file. Fortunately, I have also Revit 2021 which is able to open the file. But then after placing more curtain walls the file surpassed 5 GB. I used curtain walls to simulate build louvers.

My Computer is able to handle it but I understand that this is not good. Also, I receive messages that my file is corrupted and needs repair. I run purge and audit but the warnings remain.

Is this a generic Revit curtain wall problem or is it a specific file project?

Why not use louvers?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Are you using mullions to create your louvres?  If so, you may have thousands of these elements, in which case you can expect a substantial increase in your model size.

Perhaps create a louvre curtain panel and use that, as suggested by RobDraw.

what are your Curtain wall settings?

i use this method all the time for making rooftop and vent louvers all the time. i have seen in my office people forgetting to edit the Vertical Mullion Spacing.  When i check there model it is set to 2' or something like that. this will end up killing your model because it is placing a bunch of 2' long blades to make a 30' louver wall.  i will usually set my vertical mullion setting to None, then go back and manually place any verticals i need, if at all.

one blade vs 20 blades in a 40' wall makes a big difference. (390 vs 3500 elements)

Instead of model the blades as curtain mullions or as arrayed families, simply use a material with a model pattern.
