Cursor Origin Point Offset from Family

I have this vent family and the origin cursor is not centered on the object during placement. It is a few feet above it. I have selected the "defines origin" selection for the center left/right reference plane and a reference plane that is on the bottom. This is exactly at the bottom of the family. However, the cursor placement is not in this location.

This happens when you try to place an element in a 3D view. The cursor is often more directed to the center of the object.

However if you place the element in plan view then the origin point works as expected.

Placement needs to be done in 3D View.

If you want to place in 3d then just place and move/align it afterward. Or do it in a elevation view.

Why?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

On a side not, that should be classified as an air terminal, not mechanical equipment.

Roger. Why is it doing this if the element is on the x y elevation (0ft)? Why is the cursor not at the intersection of the x y reference planes?
