Crop view only visible on sheet

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to have the view cropped only on the sheets while uncropped in the view, similar to how layouts work in AutoCAD? I know that Revit doesn't work this way, and views are displayed on the sheet with their crop properties. but this option would save a lot of time when the cropped parts of the plan need to be visible for changes or simply as a reference.

I'll explain, I have several (independent) views that sharing the same link, and while I am working in one of the views I would like to see the entire link. this is impossible as long as I have crop view on. As I don't want to switch crop view on and off every time I make a change, I wonder if I can keep the crop option off for the view and on for the sheet?

I'm aware that I can create the main view without crop and make dependents views with a crop on and place them on the sheet, but this process is very excessive, especially for something so native to CAD workflow.

Would appreciate your comments and thoughts.

Thanks,

Shaked

the view that is on the sheet is the same view that is in the browser. any changes made to one effects the other. could you use Dependent views? make multiple dependent view that would be placed on the sheet(s) and use the Parent view for seeing the big picture.

You could use "Duplicate as a Dependent" view for this. Have one view cropped and on the sheet and then work on it's uncropped Dependent view.

Kind regards,

Thank you, yes that's how I do it. I was hoping for a better workflow. it's just a lot of duplicity that I hoped to avoid.

we use dependent views on many projects. if you have numerous Dependent views it can be a lot to juggle. make sure you have a good Key Plan for your views and educate your users on how dependent views work.

Yes, the project I’m working on has a very large footprint; about 800 meters from end to end. I really think Autodesk needs to come up with a better way to organize views.
For example, it would have been great if I could xref views into each other, so I can see multiple levels, areas, or sections side to side.
This seems like a must-have feature to me…

you could use Underlay for that.... you can set an underlay level to display and compare it to content on your current level.
