When I draw an existing plan I just lay out all the walls using a generic type at their approximate location, then go back, change the walls to the correct type (still generic but with the proper width), put dimensions between them and type in the value to match the measurements. I found it much faster that way than draw each wall properly right off the bat.
There are some options to assist drafting tasks such as snap increments (I normally leave it alone), wall location line (important one, better set it correct so that when you change the walls width, it doesn't affect the referenced dimension, try them and you will figure it out).
