Creating Family With Imported .sat Files Already Placed

I'm a beginner with Revit and I imported some .sat files exported from 3DSMax. I didn't import them as a family first, instead I went ahead and placed them to a pointcloud. There are about 30 instances copied and placed according to pointcloud but now I am unable to assign them a material. Is there a way to create a family with the imported .sat model and all of the copied instances so I could assign it a material?

I'm not clear on your workflow. What do you mean you "placed them to a pointcloud"?

...BTW: you assign materials to the sat via Object Styles Imported Categories Tab. There's got to be something showing up under that tab if the sat is in the Project.

You can't assign materials to anything that is not a native Revit object.

If you have imported all SAT files in the project under one category then you can only assign one material to all of them via Object Styles.

If you want them to have different materials then you have to do open the SAT files in AutoCAD and save them as DWGs, then link them in Revit and assign a material for each link under Object Styles.

Or import the SATs in different categories if you have enough of them.

Or override elements in view.

I guess that depends on what Material Property we're talking about? e.g. Graphical or Rendering.
