Creating a Versatile Door Family: Incorporating Single and Double Door Types in One Family

Hello everyone,

I have a quick question regarding door families. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate different door types within a single family, such as switching between a single door and a double door. Do any of you have any ideas if this is possible?

Thank you!

My advice: do one family for a single door and another for a double door. The user can switch between both types easily in the project. By doing separate families for each purpose, you won´t spend time doing something that is not useful for the user. Making families has its difficulty. This kind of families that try to do multiple things are even more difficult to do, and end up being full of formulas, and are usually difficult to use and modify.

You might check on BIMObject. I've seen a few door manufacturer's rfa's that are built that way.  Maybe you can use them as is. If not, you can always learn from them.

It can be done. However what is the objective at the end? If the door will be part of the life cycle of the project and schedule, then I would follow @Alfredo_Medina advice. If this is done for surrounding context door that will not be part of the schedule, you simply create three swings and three panels. Use visibility to hide the single swing and double swing. See attach sample and use it to reverse engineer to what you want.

I am echoing the notion of using different families for single and double doors.  Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

That would depend, wouldn't it?  What about mulled assemblies?  :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:
