Creating a Legend but as a "Family" not a "Legend"

Is it possible to create "legends" as families rather than using the create legend function?

The reason I ask is so that if we need to update them, instead of having to copy them into every single model we make over and over again, you can just reload in the family and it does it a lot quicker.

Also, if it is possible, is there a way of having the families of components and items you've used inside the "family legend" the same way you can in a normal legend?

Could you elaborate on the workflow? Because you could place generic annotations with inserted dwg ie. on sheets, as "legends" however you would still need to update links within the family...

You could export a legend with placed legend components to dwg, not sure if that's what you mean though.

if you have Generic Annotative 2d families or Detail Items test this workflow out.

Create a MASTER LEGEND

create a drafting view and set things up as you need them.

I use reference planes to sort and snap my groups to the line work when placing on my sheets.

I then create a seed file which contains all my Standard MASTER Legends as Drafting views for import into my project as needed.

now they can be Inserted From File into your project as drafting views then modified and copied into a Legend view.

see attached PDF for example
