Creating a custom hipped roof with dormers in Revit from a 2D Roof Plan drawing

Hello,

I am trying to create a hipped roof in Revit 2020 from a pre existing Autocad Roof plan with dormers included as well. Are there any tutorials for creating such complex geometry that you may know of? I have seen videos about creating hipped roofs with the built in specification. I am trying to edit the dimension of the ridge or of the height of the roof but I am unaware how this can be created.

Thank you for your help.

Place the imported CAD file in background, and trace a Roof by Footprint using it as reference.

This first step is rather easy to achieve...but solving the polygonal part of the roof ( upper-left ) that has different slopes implies using some geometry constructions ( as shown in my screencast)

  • Thank you so much for the reply and for the video tutorial.
  • I am failry new to Revit and I am an avid learner of new software. I would appreciate very much if you could provide a tutorial video for the Revit file I have attached. The roof plan Autocad reference sketch is at level 3 and I am trying to model the roof. Firstly the bigger roof has to be model, then the dormers need to put in place. Thank you very much for your understanding and help.

let me understand..

  • .is this the roof you want to model?

Q.png

if it is then :

  •  what is the slope value? is it 39.25 degrees?...as it is in your elevations?
  • where are placed these two dormers?

Dormer.png

  • or it is the CAD file from the Revit background? it is another roof...

I see no  no elevations information for this roof, neither see any dormer as in your details from the other file...

Thank you for the reply. The roof is in plan and elevation in Autocad and in roof plan in Revit in the background. I have attached both files here. Thank you for your help, I appreciate your time and effort.

I made a rough screencast and I've attached the file with the test.
