I am trying to create a 3D site model with data extracted here. I believe the output ASC file is a raster based file from my limited knowledge rather than a true lidar file. Nonetheless when imported to Revit using the Toposurface > Specify points file method the surface created did not resemble the site (screenshot attached). At this point I have become rather stuck on what to try next. I have struggled to find resources that go through the process of ASC file to 3D model.
Clearly the data is not being read as it should be or is not suitable and perhaps needs to be processed somewhere else before it gets to Revit. I am aware there is also the option of linking in as a point cloud file but I am unsure whether an ASC file is suitable for conversion. I am not sure whether ReCap would help with this or a GIS specific program.
I have attached the ASC file and a TIF file of the site which is located in Riva del Garda. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Civil 3D forms a mesh surface from the DEM file however it is so detailed with over 3 million data points that it is very troublesome to use and navigate. Trying to figure out how to simplify it. I have seen you can simplify a TIN file but I cannot find anything for grids from DEM file output.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Only get to work on this at weekends which is why progress is slow.

The way to create Revit topography using real Lidar datasets (.LAS or .LAZ files) is using the plugin Lidar Topography from the Revit app store. Here goes the link:
https://apps.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Detail/Index?id=705615533998621884&appLang=en&os=Win64
It allows placing the topography with real world coordinates in relation to the Revit Internal point and adjust the number of points (density).
