Creating 3d object pattern with boundary or custom ceiling

Hello,

I am just wondering if there's a way to create a 3D object pattern that is constrained by a boundary. Basically I am trying to create a custom ceiling. A mesh grid ceiling wil possible hanging feature items.

Thanks,

 David

Sounds like this could be done with a divided surface, with nodes, and an item that is repeated in all the nodes, or simply hanging from some nodes. I suggest that you post an image showing the idea.

Another idea would be to build a curtain panel family containing the geometry you want to replicate.  You can use this panel in Sloped Glazing family, and then make your ceiling as a flat Roof using this Sloped Glazing family.

Hi

Thanks for your input. I have given it a few tries without succeeding. I have attached a photo of a real life application that I am trying to replicate. if you have any suggestion on how I can achieve this, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

David

I'm guessing that you're referring to the waffle patterned concrete ceiling. Both methods mentioned above will work. You can create a pattern based curtain panel for the waffle and apply it to a divided surface, or you can use roof tool and create a a ceiling using flat slope glazing. If you go this route, you can make the waffle pattern with custom-dimensioned rectangular mullions, or you can use a custom curtain panel, in place of the mullions, to make the waffle pattern.

Which method did you try?

1. For wall grid ( Vertical plane ), its easy to use curtain wall and fix distances between mullions, similarly for Ceiling ( Horizontal plane )

its easy to use beam system, it gives flexibility to edit profile of the grids element, and the distance...

2. simple create beam system, chose the member profile ( available in structural beam families )

3. create another beam system to get perpendicular grid.

4. create ceiling, perforated ( you may attached the profile , lock the profile to beam system if you want..

and thats it...

@braicodavid

I would model it as a sloped glazing aka a non vertical curtain wall. The perforated panels should be taken cared of by a material with cutout pattern instead of an actual model.

...or create the concrete waffle patterned ceiling using the Opening tool to punch a series of holes through a thick floor slab -- and then join that waffle pattern floor to the underside of another thick solid floor slab. Voila! All you need then is the pancake batter. Smiley (fröhlich)
