Create New Level Family Type

I'm not sure why I'm struggling with this.

I edit the 'Level Head - Circle' Parent Annotation Symbol, enter the family editor, make my edits to the level, 'save-as' and load the new type into the project. All this does is overwrite the current Level.

Then, I tried going into the family, clicking on the 'Family Types' button and create a new type. I load the new type into the project and this does the same and overwrites the level family.

I see that there are types which I previously created that are associated with the Level family in the project, but they all change the parent Level.

How can I accomplish this simple task? I am no stranger to family creation so I'm baffled. Thanks

Hi,

Can you attach some screenshots of what you are trying? and what doesn't work?

When you save the 'Level Head - Circle', did you rename it as new name or keep the same name? If you keep the same name and load back into the project, it will automatically override the existing.

@syman2000

Each time I opened the family and made changes, I saved it with a new name, then loaded it into the project. As can be seen in the attached images, my Level family named 'LEVEL TEST' shows up in the project browser; however, it is not selectable when I click on the level. Also, it is not an option to use when creating a new level.

I also notice that LEVEL TEST contains two Level Head family by default.

Not sure why I'm struggling with this.

Try changing Level head in the type to Level test and see if that change the symbol.

Just to update here, I realize if I duplicate the level and change the level head symbol, the changes work. I think I understand now.

Thank you for getting the wheels turning.
