Create Filter for Linked Revit File

I have our Structural consultants Revit file linked into ours. I want to filter out their walls except the foundation, which is a basic wall type like all the rest. How can I filter out selected walls from a linked file?

Depending on whether the Linked structural Model is a workshared model or not...I would filter them similar to the below:

  1. Ensure Link visibility is set to Custom/ Linked View by Link and Filter by Host
  2. Check the Workset name which the walls in the Link are using
  3. Add a Filter
    • WOrkset - contains - ex: say "Structural"
    • Type Name - does not contain - Foundation
    • Add filter to the view and uncheck Visible

Would look like below GIF (Results may differ depending on the set up of your Linked model

The main issue I had was the linked Structural model had only one workset. I did use your way to get the result I needed with some minor adjustments but it was a good starting point. Thank you!

You could also set some views/view filter(s) (either selection/rule-based) within the linked file and use the <By LinkedView> view filter settings for the link in the host model... and another [bit far-fetched here, so more in general] similar method could be using the linked-models phase override settings, I mean similar to creating clay-renderings, depending on what you are looking to show...^^

Need to filter the arch cmu walls to show hatching to match ours cmu hatching.

does it have to be by linked or can I keep as by host model?

You can just leave it as the host model.

The problem is that you don't know the name of the workset they used when you try to filter (the workset name shown in your revit is just for the nested model and not the element). A work around I found was to filter using "does not contain" [insert your own workset], because this would filter out every other workset but your own.
