Create custom View Title Line that stretches

I'm trying to make a View Title line that behaves like the OOTB one, but doesn't look like it.  I know how to change the line type pattern, color, thickness, etc... but when I change the thickness to what I'm after it makes round ends on the line and I would like them to be square (like a square ended bar, not a sausage).  I can create the graphic the way I want with a filled region and place it in the family with reference planes and associated dimensions, etc to make the graphic stretch like any other family... but it doesn't seem to work in View Titles?  When placed in the host file there's no grip to stretch the line, unless you turn "display extension line" on and then it's just the regular line over the top of the graphic I made.

You cannot have a line in your view title family that is associated to the viewport type that will stretch on an instance basis.

The dimension controlling the line length needs to be type based. Then you would need to have multiple types for different lengths and then assign them each to different viewport types.

Its a pain.
