Create Custom Concrete Wall Thickness

Hi, new to Revit here

I'm as-builting a house and need a 4" concrete foundation wall.  Tried searching the forum, but didn't find an answer to this question.

Problem is when I copy the Concrete 8" wall type to make a new custom thickness  concrete wall type, the thicknesses is grayed-out and un-editable.

Yes, I can copy the generic wall, and make it look like concrete with the fill pattern, but I lose the analytical properties since the 'Structural Material' field is set to 'By Category' but is grayed-out and can't be changed. Granted, this really isn't all that important for this project and I'll use the modified generic to keep going.

But looking forward to larger projects requiring structural and thermal analysis, it sure seems like it SHOULD be a simple matter to change the thickness of concrete walls to ANY custom thickness required.

  • Is there a way to unlock and edit the Width field, or
  • Is wall metadata perhaps editable in a text editor or with some other external tool?

Follow-up question:

  • Now I have an extraneous custom wall type that is unusable, but I don't see an easy way to delete it! Have renamed it to 'xJunk' which sends it to the bottom of the list, but there really ought to be a way to take out the trash, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

You need to edit the structure of the wall, see the image.

Yep that works for purging unused objects, be sure to 'check none' and then go Into the tree and check the actual trash you want get rid of!
