Create a Line Based Family with Transparent Solid Fill

Hi,

My firm likes to show accessible routes through residential units as a 3' wide, manually drawn filled region that maps out the path through the unit. Rather than manually drawing individual filled regions, I'd like to make a family or line type that is essentially a 3' wide line. I feel like this would save a lot of time. However I can't make a transparent line within the project and I can't make solid filled regions non-masking in the family editor. The box is grayed out. Please help.

I believe that is only available for filled regions added directly in project.

Make the Solid Filled Region in a Generic Model Line-Based Family.

yeah that's how it's looking. It feel like it should be possible, but I'm not finding any way to achieve it.

I like that idea. I tried it, but it's still showing the masking box checked and greyed out as soon as I switch it to solid fill.

Yep, I mis-read you.  I see you want the solid filled circle drawn at the Detail Plane and for it to be transparent so you can see the Model Elements underneath it.  You're looking for a workaround to Arraying this transparent circle in the Project environment -- hence why you're looking at a line-based Family for this.

What about using Override Graphics in View to apply a transparency to a Repeating Detail Component?

The series of circles is an interesting idea. I've included a screenshot of what I'm trying to do below. I made a gray, line based annotation family to represent a 36" wide accessible route moving through a unit. But by with the solid fill set to masking it covers up the things it passes over. If I override it with a filter, it looks funny at the joints, when it overlaps itself. Just doing it as a series of circles would be in an interesting way to stop if from overlapping itself. I'll bring that idea to my firm and see if they're ok with the circle graphic. Currently we draw the whole route as one big filled region which feels very inefficient.

Really? I wasn't suggesting a series of circles to represent ADA Clearance.  The screenshot was merely illustrating a Repeating Detail Component (a Solid Filled Region) made transparent in the View via Override Graphics in View by Element.

Why don't you just use 3'-0" thick Walls that use a transparent material?  Or any geometry for that matter?  There are ADA Height Clearance as well.  Get the point?  Besides, you might find geometry better in the long run. Think Interference Checking.
