Counting Rooms in Schedules

Anonymous

So I have a bit of a thinker here, I'll explain what I'd like to have first:

Schedule.png

I want to make a Room Schedule that counts Barrier Free Units. I have set up a Yes/No parameter for Barrier Free, so I know I can make two schedules (one that counts total units, one that counts total barrier free units) but I'd like to be able to make a percentage at the end, and as far as I know the info has to be in the same schedule to do so.

So how would you do it? Because right now if I add the Barrier Free field it just shows a grey box for the counts that have some barrier free units, and it doesn't actually count the number of Yes check boxes... I'm not sure if you can count how many of a certain Parameter there are in a field, I've tried a few Calculated Value Functions with no success.

Any ideas would be great! Thanks so much.

Grey means it is inactive and null. You actually need check/uncheck it to activate.

So, you want the percentage to be the total number of checkboxes that are checked divided by the total number of checkboxes???

Yes it can be done. It's best if you can upload a stripped down file here so we can go from there.

Yep, just 2 calculated parameters needed.

Oh, I see why your checkboxes were greyed out. You weren't Itemizing.

This is a huge help, but is there any way the percentage can read as a percentage of the Grand Total? like if the 3 barrier free rooms came to a total of 33% (3/9 rooms). So in your example, the Barrier Free Column would read:

22%

11%

0%

--

33% would be the total.

I'm not sure how to do it, as Revit seems to count it as a percentage of its own total, adding up to 100%.

Thanks again!

Isn't that EXACTLY what I have showed you above?  Each row has that percentage in last column.   If the Grand Total was less than or more that 100%, the row calculations would be flawed.  I would hide that Grand Total in the schedule myself.   It's superfluous information.

….or you can do subtotals of "unit types"

In your example you show 11 rooms under b out of a total of 18 rooms. I was asking how to show those "b" rooms as a percentage of the Grand Total (18) rooms, which would be 61%.

Revit seems to allow you to do a percentage of a column by either the grand total or another column in the sorting/grouping values.

But either way it gives me a total of 100%. I had asked how to show what percentage of the total rooms are barrier free.

Thanks

Edit: In the new example you show 7 "b" rooms out of a total of 16 rooms, so how would I show 44%?

It can be done semi-automatically.

What's the Solution Credit being given for?   Looks to me like Solution #5 is just a repackaging of Solution #2.

"Grey means it is inactive and null. You actually need check/uncheck it to activate."
This wasn't the case for the original question.

"So, you want the percentage to be the total number of checkboxes that are checked divided by the total number of checkboxes???"
Is a misunderstanding of the original question.

Solutions number 5 and 9 gave a good answer together and were a little more in depth as far as explaining what to do, which I thought would be helpful for people with the same question.

Thanks for the help though!

This was understood and illustrated in Message #4.

"Oh, I see why your checkboxes were greyed out. You weren't Itemizing."

No it isn't. You're either confused or mathematically challenged, or both.  That's how percentages are calculated.  A net total divided by a grand total which represents 100%.   In this case, the net total is calculated based on the status of the checkbox in EACH row.

I wonder how many "solutions" you would have had if I hadn't got the ball rolling with THE SOLUTION.  Guess we'll never know.

Really???  What "help" are you referring to?

You should have stuck around. You don't need to do FAKE it like is shown in your Solution #9. You can do it automatically.
