I have a piece of furniture that is made of steel structural framing covered with wood,brick and marble. I created a parametric family since i need to use the same structure in different projects but with different size and number of modules. My question is, is it possible to create a schedule that can tell me the amount of material used for the family on each particular project?

In each Project??? In other words, schedule Materials from several different Projects?
What I need is a schedule I can use to know how much material I'm gonna need for the project, since the family can have different lenght, modeules,etc. I need to be able to see how much material I need to order for each individual project after the family has been adapted to it
View Tab>Schedule>Material Takeoff.
Filter the schedule to show only the steel material in the families.
Thanks, this gives me the volume of the materials, but since the family is built with proper steel structural framing pieces, I would like to obtain the lenght of these, is that possible?
OK--if you need length of each family in a schedule:
View Tab>Schedule/Quantities
Create a Structural Framing Schedule ( if you are using these families?)
Add Length into Fields.
Yes, the problem is that the Structural Framing pieces are inside another family so they don't come up as part of the Structural Framing Schedule
-In the host family, select the "nested" struct. families, then under Family Categories & Parameters, check Shared.
-This allows them to also be tagged in the project--using the Tab key.

If you are using Structural framing members in you families then you can make them "shared" or they will return to their original sizes one load in the project. You can use that method with other categories such as Generic.
I am afraid if you want to report the dimensions of the nested members in the project, you would have to replace the nested structural families with other type of families.
For example:
- create a generic family, load a parametric structural profile and create sweep
- add shared parameters for dimensions you want to report and associate them with the geometry of the sweep
- then change it to structural frame category, make it shared and nest it in you family
- now the shared parameters above will be available to add to the schedule in the project
Follow up on my previous issue... I managed to get the steel profiles into the schedule but as soon as I share the family all the dimensions get out of control and the beams don't seem to attach to the dimensions I set before, if I correct it inside the family again, they still take a different form when loaded into the project

Did you create the nested steels as generic families or did you use the structural steel families?
