Copy/Monitoring Architectural elements in a linked MEP model

So I have a project that has a linked in MEP file with shared coordinates. I also have the out of the box water heater family within several residential unit groups. These groups are copied to all residential floors as they are the same.

Whenever I copy/monitor these water heaters in the MEP model the heater comes in at the base point level and not the correct residential level. Any idea what the problem could be? The water heater family is set to "work plane based" currently. When I change it to not be work plane based, the family in the architectural model triples up and I get errors about instances being in the same place.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jaysyn

I think you need to copy monitor the Levels in first.

it could relate to how the groups are made up in the model

did you sort out your Copy Monitor options

you can select a specific file under Apply Settings to :

Select a category

if you do select a specific file you may get more options from that selection

Copy Individually, Allow Batch copy, Ignore Category

Copy Original, Specify Type Mapping

you can affect the result if you adjust some options here.

A quick search reveals the exact issue with copy monitoring work plane based families has not been addressed.  Even disassociate the equipment from the work plane did not fix it.

Workaround: assuming you are copying equipment from Arch to MEP, original equipment is placed on Work Plane in Arch.

1. Delete all the previously copy monitored of equipment from MEP

2. Edit the equipment family, uncheck Work Plane-Based.  Load it in MEP.  Do not load it in Arch.

3. Copy monitor the equipment in, again.  Now because the non work plane-based family already exists in MEP, they will be placed at the correct levels.

Note: if you are working on both Arch and MEP files, you may need to rename the revised equipment and change the copy monitor mapping.

Thank you for the great reply. It works with the exception of the water heaters that are in residential groups that have multiple of the same kind on the same floor. If there is only one group on a specific floor level, then it works great. The first group of multiples on the same floor works as well, however the remaining similar gropus still send the non wp water heater family to the project base point level.

We have our project base points 100' below the survey points so our first floor level is set to 100'-0" FYI

I will say that the survey point of the MEP model is not in the same location as the Architectural model. I use a Site model linked in to manage the shared coordinate system. Could this be part of the problem?

Any idea what is going on with my last post? Multiple copies of the same group on the same floor results in the same issue other than the first group copy/monitored from.....

@Anonymous

I have not found a solution for multiple groups yet.  I don't know why this was marked as solved.

@Viveka_CD

Could you unmark the solution since the issue is still there?  Thanks!
