Coordinates Issues in linking CAD Files

Hi,

I have linked two cad files in Revit. One is surface files and another is layout file. Both of the files are placed in different coordinates.  Eventhough both are in same coordinates in original files. In addition to that iam unable locate the layout file. Please help.

I have attached the cad files and revit file.

Hi Ishwarya,

Links management and coordinates are key to good BIM modeling.

First you need to identify what should be the reference point of your project.

You might for example want to share the reference point with engineers, landscape designer, etc...

Here are the good steps that will solve all of your problems:

  1. Import a file in which the origin is the one that you want to use as a reference.
  2. Place it at the right location
  3. In the manage ribbon tab, select > location > coordinates > Acquire coordinates, and then select your file. that way you make its coordinates the main coordinates for your project.
  4. If the other files have been published with the same coordinates (which should be the case in a good workflow), it will import at the right place as long as you pick "positionning: origin to origin" in the import window.
  5. If you need a second "reference point", you can record the position of a link by selecting a link and in the properties panel going to Shared Site.. In the dialog box, record the position of the link.
  6. When you import another link using one of these positons, you can, now that you have properly set the origin and recorded links locations, move an import to another location very quickly by selecting the link on screen, and in the property panel select Shared Site..., and then pick "Move instance to..." the desired origin.

Sorry I went a bit thorough, but it is very important to manage your origins very well for the quality and precision of your designs.

Tell me if you need more info / more details,

Cheers,

François
