Good afternoon,
I'm trying to convert an undermount sink model I have from a hosted family to a face-based family to automatically cut a countertop when placed. I've seen multiple videos showing the process of switching the family to either a airport terminal or mechanical equipment etc, linking and copy/monitoring to create an face-based instance.
The issue I seem to be having is that I cannot copy monitor anything other than Columns, Walls, Floors and Grids/Levels. Am I missing something? Or is this workaround only available in Revit MEP?
Thanks,
Robert

Take a look here:
The PyRevit does indeed work which is great, however it doesn't fill my ultimate goal as the family is still technically Hosted, just the instances in the project isn't. I was hoping that after conversion I would be able to edit the family and have it show the generic face mass (similar to what is shown in the Generic Face Based Family template). Well...back to the drawing board. Perhaps its better to just recreate the family from scratch.
Thank you for your help.
Robert
- edit the host based family (F1) and change it to mechanical equipment category
- place it on a host in a new project file (A)
- link (A) to your file (B)
- copy monitor (F1) from (A) to (B) and it will becomes a face based family (F2)
- edit (F2) and change it from mechanical equipment to the original category and reload
@rspierenburg: You say you're hoping that after conversion I would be able to edit the family and have it show the generic face mass (similar to what is shown in the Generic Face Based Family template). I take this to mean that you want the Default Host Wall/Face in the family to become part of the new family. Is this correct? If so, I don't think it's possible.
What do you say guys? Is it?
I have a light that is hosted by level.... why won't this process work to convert it to face based?
Check Work Plane-Based in the Family. Now you can host it to a Face -- or a Work Plane.
