Convert Direct shape from IFC to Revit native family

Hi

The client supplied a design model in IFC format, I believe it was built in Archicad. all the IFC families such as walls and floors are in the "Direct Shape" family. They are recognised as floors and walls in Revit just not Revit native Floors and walls family.

Is there a way to convert these direct shapes? All I need is the floor profile etc. otherwise I have to spend a lot of time remodelling everything to match the IFC model.

I have Rhino inside with grasshopper as well if that helps.

You can try to open the IFC (instead of linking) and see if Revit is able to convert some of the elements.

However the more complex (e.g. sub elements in floors) then usually it fails.

If you are familiar with grasshopper, then Revit Dynamo should be relative quick to learn. Then you might be able to script something to (partially) automate the creation of new floors/walls. Probably useful when you will have to repeat this task over and over again.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

You could also create parts then modify parts.

Nemetschek/Graphisoft offers an Addin for Revit that allows some sort making better of use of archicad ifc file further down the line. Just check graphisoft.com for any Revit entries.
