Consistent colors and vector printing

Why can’t you print vector when “consistent colors” is turned on? It seems to me that as long as there is no shading or shadows, this should be possible. This would be extremely helpful for having better control of building elevations for illustrating material changes in construction drawings.

Thanks for the question, i am currently working with the development team to understand technically why this is happening. At the very least I will be filing a customer feedback request to the team.

Stay tuned,

Thanks

Thanks, I've searched all over for a solution to this and not many are even talking about it. I feel it can be huge for architectural graphics if this is achievable.

Hello, we have a customer wishlist item filed against our team. Hopefully we can incorporate this into a future release

Thanks

Maby you can take a look at your competitors like ArchiCAD, they have no problem solving this. I think it is somewhat embarressing that a modern CAD-program like Revit have so many flaws.

I'd like to keep this request alive.  Using Revit 2017 and it still can't do vector printing with consistent colors.

If I have a view in consistent color mode, it will print that view as a raster image, but will NOT display the raster warning dialog box about using "shading, shadows, point clouds, sketchy lines, depth cueing, or gradients."  If I turn on shadows, the warning will display.

In addition to vector printing in consistent color mode, why can't it work with depth cueing in hidden line and consistent color mode?  Sure, the lines and blocks of color are lighter but they are not gradients.

Finally, shadows can really help explain the depth of an elevation.  They are just darkened areas, not gradients, so in the right modes, why can't they print in vector format as well?

Yes. It was my understanding that this was a resolved issue in 2017. Just tried it and couldn't get it to work. On the depth cueing, however, I have to disagree. If you have anything curved, the line is indeed a gradient, so in that case it may not work. Either way, like you mention, at the very least Revit should display the usual warning of: we will use raster printing. There are many inconsistencies, for example if you apply ghosting to a view, it seems to do raster, while if you override transparencies through VG by category, it still prints vector.

+1 £3,840/year/user. Honestly, I want to be a Revit Lincense nowadays.

And..

Its been long. Does Autodesk Revit Team has a solution for this or they just like to collect customer wish list?

My Consistent Color Views are still getting printed with Raster. The above posts suggest this was resolved?

Which post?  None of them said it resolved.

" that this was a resolved issue in 2017."

Just looking for an AutoDesk response to the above mentioned.

If i do hidden line, and override with solid filled filters for colors, it will print in Vector. REALLY don't want to go and create a filter override for every situation.

Did you read the whole context or just one sentence?

Still an issue in 2018...........

in 2018.2 it seems to work on very simple drawings. On real plans I always seem to get "Revit will use raster printing because this view uses shading, shadows, point clouds, sketchy lines, depth cueing or gradients.", even when none of these options seem to be used.

I've read that Topography 'triggers' raster printing, not sure why, but switching that off doesn't help either. At the very least that message could be improved upon, or there's a bug that also triggers raster printing for obscure reasons.

Either way, Revit decides it needs to use raster printing. Why doesn't Revit just show what it would look like in vector printing without shading, shadows, point clouds, sketchy lines and gradient?

The warning is ok to the user knows vector printing was selected that might cause differences between the printing and the plan on screen.

Nobody actually wants to search in vain for some element that might or might not be 'triggering' raster printing for some reason, they just want a vector print.

The "offending" elements could be highlighted in the Print Preview. Let the user decide whether he's happy with the vector print or not.

I wish Revit would fix this already. Also, this happens when you have render views in the same sheet as floor plans. which forces you to plot the sheet twice and combine it in another program. This is basic.

I`ve created a case under IDEAS though it does`t seem like a lot of people are interested to vote for it.....

Creating the same idea aand posting it doesnt mean it will push Autodesk to solve it. I am sad as I just got the beta 2019 to test from autodesk and its still the open issue. "WHAT A SHAME"

Dear Nicolas,

How are you doing? I hope after 3 years of posting this and as you mentioned its in the "wish list", do we have anything regarding this issue?  Working on a billion euro project and one small thing which client ask, we are not able to give just because Autodesk development team is sleeping for last 3 years!!

maybe I do not understand how issues are being brought forward to Autodesk.. but the way I see it it`s the forums to discuss stuff and give advice to each other and IDEA place to push forward improvements we want from Autodesk. (please correct if I`m wrong and sorry for spamming)
