Conflicting shared parameters Revit 2016

I am trying to place a specific window from a manufacturer into a residential model, but I cannot load the family into the model due to a conflict between shared parameters. I downloaded the family from the manufacturer's website and when I attempt to load it I get the following error: "The shared parameter '2fe0a033-ae1e-4e62-9ea9-f08bd99bfe26' cannot be added with name 'Interior Finish' and type 'Text' because it conflicts with the existing name 'Interior Finish' and type 'Material'." I checked the "Shared Parameters" dialog in each file and cannot find anything. I am at a loss and can't seem to find any other posts addressing this specific problem. Any ideas are much appreciated.

It it because on the family, the type pameter that was used for the material was "Text" and on your project is Material.

Open the family and track the element(s) that use this parameter and point it out to your shared parameter for Interior Finish.

Thank you so much for the response. Forgive me for being naive, but where should I look for the Interior Finish parameter? Is it in the Edit Type dialog for individual elements within the component? Then where do I find the parameter in the Edit Shared Parameters dialog? when I open that window in either the model of component, there is nothing there and I am not sure how to even create one. I have attached the file for the component I am trying to place. Thanks again.

I just experienced the same issue.  I opened the family in Revit 2015 saved it and then loaded it into 2016, that seemed to solve the problem for me.

Same problem here. Tried saving the family in 2016 which did not help.

I can find the parameter name in the family, but not in the project being pasted to. Checked through all the shared parameter groups, but none.

So how does one find a shared parameter which is not in the project?

Edit the family, select and modify a parameter it will tell you if it is a family or a shared parameter. If you want to be able to use this parameter for tagging, you'll need to export it to your shared parameters file.
If a shared parameter exist only in a family, it will be visible as a field in the schedules, but you won't be able to use it for tagging.

If there is a conflict, you can edit the family and select a shared parameter that you already have in your file (check if it is the same type, if it's being used in any formulas)

If it's a parameter that you don't need to schedule or tag, just switch it to a family parameter and change the name.

I've been having the same problem and have found a workaround.

Open a brand new project and load the Marvin window/door families that you need into it. Then copy and paste them into your project. Now that they are in the project you can load them normally with the type selector. Its an extra step, but definitely easier than editing every family, and maintains that parameter as intended by marvin.
