Conceptual Mass, move a line off host plane

Hello all,

This is my first post. I'm still learning Revit2022, so please help.

I'm in Conceptual Mass. I need to draw a vertical line at the center of the crossed circle (image 01.jpg). When I snap to the center of the circle as a starting point for the line, Revit selects the horizontal plane and I'm only able to draw horizontally.

I selected the vertical plane, image 02. I managed to finally draw a vertical line. However, I can't move it to the center of the circle! It's locked to its host plane.

1- What is the correct way to draw a vertical line from a specific point on a horizontal plane?

2. How can I move a line (or any other element) off the host plane it was drew on?

Your help will much, much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You can place a ref point at the center of the circle and draw your vertical line on the vertical ref plane of that point. Or draw a ref plane at the center of the circle and draw on this plane.

Thank you. I haven't learnt about reference points or reference planes yet. This is what I did: I placed a reference point at the center of the circle, set it as drawing plane, drew the line horizontally from the center, because it also did not allow me to do it vertically, but at least now it has the correct start point, and the correct plane, so I rotated it.

Is this the easiest way to do such task?

I imagine you want the vertical line move along with the circle.  If so, do this:

  • Place a ref point first, set Show ref plane to Always from the point properties
  • Draw a circle using the ref point as the center,  on the hor ref plane of the ref point
  • Start Line tool, pick workplace, and select a vertical ref plane of the ref point

Now, you can drag the ref point and both the circle and the vertical line will move along with it.

Mate, you are a legend. Thank you so much. I deleted everything and did this:

1. I simply placed a reference point at the center of the circle

2. I selected the point and from Properties panel I set (Show reference planes) to Always.

3. From Set, I set the vertical plane as the drawing plane.

4. After initiating the line tool, I clicked (Draw on Work Plane), and not (On Face) - which I didn't notice before.

It's simple and quick. Thanks a lot.

How is the Ref. Point constrained to the center of the circle?  I mean, you can put a Ref. Point anywhere you like, but fixing it to the chosen x,y,z location requires a little more work.

FWIW: you might to look into "Driving" Ref. Points - those RPs that host to and are driven by other RPs.

Thanks for that. As I told the person who answered earlier, I haven't got to reference points and reference planes yet. I'll surely look into the post you have provided. Much appreciated.

As for placing the reference point at the center of the circle, I agree, it's not the "friendliest" task. You need to put the model at a good view angle so you can snap to the center point, once you find it! So it does take a bit of orbiting, zooming in and out, and mouse-hoovering around the center area to get the snap point at the center of the circle.
