Hi, I am an architecture student and need to purchase a laptop for programs such as revit, Autocad, 3ds max, and rhino 6.0. The school sells a laptop with these specs listed below that is sufficient for all projects we will do. I will purchase it if needed, but I wanted to look into other options because the one they sell is very pricey.

  • Intel Xeon E3-2276M v6 (Quad Xeon 3.00GHz, 4.00GHz Turbo, 8MB 45W)
  • 16GB, 1x16GB, DDR4 2666MHz Non-ECC Memory
  • Nvidia Quadro P1000 w/4GB GDDR5

I was looking specifically at the dell xps 17 as an alternative, with:

10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10875H (16MB Cache, up to 5.1 GHz, 8 cores)

16gb ram

NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 6GB GDDR6 with Max-Q

Would the dell work well? I need help the most with finding a laptop with the right graphic card. I know Quadro cards are made for cad, but as a student doing light-med projects off and on, would the extra price be worth it?

Wow, both specs look really good.  I don't see any problems with the GeForce especially for doing class work.

I would go with the cheapest.
