My office is having the same problem. It's not like it's locked up, you can still move around but none of the commands work. You can't select the wall tool, you can't delete a wall, you can't synchronize to central etc. For some reason going to File>Save has fixed the problem occasionally. It almost seems like a licensing issue, you'll be working, stop to answer an email or take a phone call and then nothing works when you get back into Revit. Very frustrating, if I could save down to Revit 2019 I'd do it in a heartbeat but we all know that is asking too much.
In our office we have found that entering into task manager, clicking on Autodesk Revit (I typically click on all of the items under the drop down for it) but not actually ending task, then switching back to Revit will allow us to continue on working.
having the same issue in our office, we there a solution for this?
thanks
nothing worked on mine yet. Task manager and save doesn't work.
I hope Autodesk will have a fix for this. This is frustrating. It leaves me idle for almost an hour. I can't close revit since I haven't synced for an hour. Can't click on anything but it's not frozen.
In order for a programming fix, workflow adjustment, or content repair to happen, it needs to be able to be replicated. Can you describe the steps taken prior to Revit locking up?
same here, issue appears when server connection is lost, escpecially while syncing
- syncing to work server from home over VPN, internet connection drops.
- first revit is stuck, after that it wakes up again but no commands whatsoever are working.
- Internet & server connection is back up but still no working commands in revit.
- when closing all windows it does ask for a sync (before exiting the file) but does not work, 'file not saved'
even after closing the file one you are in 'blank' revit, commands still not work. Program needs to shut down completely.

This is your problem. It's not a Revit issue. Working in Revit over the internet requires a reliable connection. When that connection is lost, problems can happen. Working over VPN is not a viable solution for Revit. I would suggest Remote Desktop or BIM360.
I am having this problem now with Revit 2020. I am on BIM360 and none of the icons do anything, shortcuts won't work. Also can't save. Has to be a Revit issues. Any suggestions?
Why are you asking me?
I still think it's a connection issue.
I'm having the same issue. I left a BIM360 project in Revit 2020.2.4 open all night. I connect to VPN for my license. At some point over night my VPN disconnected (I didn't lose internet, it just timed out). Now I can open views, move around, select elements, but none of the commands or buttons actually work. I can't close the program either - it needs to be force closed through task manager. I can't even open the About section to check on my license status.

Force it to close. If I messed up by leaving a model open for that long, the first thing I would do is close without saving.
I too have the same problem earlier, later we have checked like there is an update with Autodesk licensing service. Pls check and update it to latest version. Once I updated the Autodesk licensing service, the problem was gone. Check with IT team once.
