COBie Systems

Hello,

I am using the Autodesk COBie Extension and I was wondering if someone knows how to apply a System to non-MEP elements. For example, I want to add systems to doors and windows and have them appear in the System sheet when exporting. At the moment the COBie extension only allows using systems in MEP objects.

I know one solution would be Dynamo or the API but I wanted to know if someone has experience with this and if they managed to export this info only with the COBie extension.

Many thanks

i don't think you can. Systems are an Mechanical function and not available for other elements. can you please explain the reason why you would want to assign a system to a door?

@hmunsellUnfortunately in the UK is a common thing.

I even had a conversation with the creator of COBie saying that the systems are only for MEP.

But here it is a requirement.

See the standards:

a) Every Space (location) should be assigned to one Floor (region).

b) Every Space (location) should be assigned to at least one Zone.

c) Every Floor and Zone should have at least one Space (location).

d) Every Component should be assigned to at least one Space (location), from which it is used, inspected or maintained.

e) Every Component should be assigned to one Type.

f) Every Component should be assigned to at least one System, identifying its function.

g) Every Type should apply to at least one Component.

h) Every reference to other sheets should be valid.

i) Every reference to PickList enumerations and classifications should be valid.

j) Enumerations specified in the Attributes and PickLists should be adhered to.

@H.echeva wrote

f) Every Component should be assigned to at least one System, identifying its function.

in this case could System be thought of as the family category? it may just be a difference in terminology. its categorized as a Door/Window/Column, that is its "function".

Just to double up on the point being made, I wanted to hop in and be 100% clear - the COBie Extension can not be used to export non-MEP Revit system information to the Systems tab. There is no way to do this. As has been pointed out, that's not its purpose. I would think if you use Dynamo you would need to rewrite the entire COBie exporter... or I guess you could write something to just edit the Systems tab but at that point it may be easier to just open the Excel file and manually edit it.
