Cloud Model- Linked model file path defaults to local

Revit '22- Focus on specialty equipment.

I am a consultant on a very large project where the architect has 5 models for just the floor plans, plus 5 others for structural, exterior, etc.  There are other consultants with linked models as well.  Aside from lag and a massive file size, I have had basically no issues with saving my model to BIM360, and no issues with linked models.  For additional reference, our work is mainly complete and get in periodically for CA.

Over the past few weeks, none of the linked models are showing up and it shows all of those models with a local file path to my C: drive.  All under the Revit local App Data.  When I open that folder, no files exist aside from the temp file.  Somehow my model defaulted to a local (yet nonexistent) copy instead of the BIM360 file location.  I have manually reloaded all links from the correct location, sync'ed, and verified those models are still listed correctly.  Each time I open Revit '22, links are gone and list C drive again.  There are others with access to the model but only ever notes my local drive.  To my knowledge, no one has ever changed the settings or save locations.  At one point, even the architect had my local drive as the file location within BIM360, which i didn't think was possible and have never directly opened their models.

Disclaimer: I'm definitely not a Revit expert, I know enough to do my job.  This model has had its fair share of issues and is one of the larger projects in the country.

Has anyone had this happen before?  Is it a save location issue?  Any way to make sure it defaults to BIM360 again?  All were set to Overlay, some weren't even loaded as I didn't need them (still linked but unloaded).

I'm at a loss for a cause and especially a solution.

Thanks for any input!

This has happened to almost all of our Revit users in the last year or so. I don't know the cause but to make a very long story short I can usually fix fix this by recreating the collaboration cache:

To clear a corrupt/damaged cloud workshared model or outdated link from the system:

  1. Exit Desktop Connector.
  2. Create a folder called Cache on the Desktop.
  3. Create a folder called Collab and Pac inside the Cache folder on the desktop.
  4. Move the contents of the PacCache and CollaborationCache folders to the corresponding folders created on the desktop.
    1. Collaboration cache folder location C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit ####\CollaborationCache
    2. PacCache folder location C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\PacCache
      • Note: Do not move the Logs folder or the .json file.
  5. Start Desktop Connector.
  6. Open the problematic file in Revit.
    1. Note: This will recreate the cache and clear any corrupt/damaged cloud workshared cache data.
  7. Open the Desktop folders from Step 3 and the original folder location of the Cache files.
  8. Move the files that were not recreated back into the original Cache folders.
    1. Note: If none of the files are moved back into the original cache folders, the cache for other projects will need to be recreated which will slow down the initial time it takes to open the file.
