When being sent updated client models as an IFC format, its taking our computers over a hour to just open one of them so we can save it as a normal Revit file to work with.
We don't know whether its the specs of the computer or something we are doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.

Try to export and import in parts
1.Export some portion of the model ( delete half and keep rest )
2. Export IFC and try importing..
If that works then you may find the actual problematic location.
you can import two ifc and combine as well..

try to get their import settings..that might help..
See if you can get an independent screenshot of what they're exporting. I've seen similar situations where far more detail than necessary was being provided, such as vent/louver/grate cut-outs.
Providing your computer specs would also be helpful, even if it's just to rule that out.
