Chrome Browser freezes/locks up completely after opening a file in Revit.

We are running Revit 2017 on windows 10.  Strangely enough, the Chrome Browser freezes/locks up completely after opening a file in Revit. Chrome becomes unusable/unresponsive for however long we have Revit open.  Once we close Revit the browser starts working fine (without closing and reopening Chrome) right we we left off before opening a Rivet file.

We are able to duplicate the problem consistently across a couple of models of computers with different graphics cards in them.  Also, it is just the Chrome browser.  IE and Edge browsers do not have the problem.

Anyone else see this?  Any thoughts for a fix?

Thanks

Jim

Welcome to the Autodesk community!

Which version of Chrome are you using? Have you updated to a recent version?

Hi @Anonymous

Please try the below for me:

Reposting from the chrome community forums:

After ensuring you’ve signed into your Chrome profile, let's try the below steps one by one to see if it helps with the Chrome freeze issue:

  1. Try clearing your cache and cookies. Start by clearing from the time period you started facing the issue, then expand to “beginning of time”.

  2. Use the incognito mode. If it works well, I'd suggest you disable the extensions temporarily (you could use chrome://extensions/ on the Chrome address bar) and re-enable them one at a time to determine which extension is misbehaving.

  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration (Menu > Settings > Show Advanced Settings > System menu).

  4. Reset Chrome settings to default.

If the above does not help resolve your issue:

  1. Download and run the Chrome Cleanup Tool and Malwarebytes to remove unwanted programs affecting Chrome. Reboot your system, and check if it helped.

  2. If the above doesn't help, you could refer to this help article to uninstall Chrome. And then, install it using offline installer: Chrome Stable (only for Windows) or use this link.

  3. If the issue continues to persist, could you login in as a guest user to check if the issue persists there as well

Let me know if this helps!

Regards,
