Changing worktop (family) colour IN PLAN from white.

Hi all,

I brought in a standard worktop that ships with Revit but it shows up White in Plan.

It will change to whatever colour I like in 3D and in Elevation.

How do I change the colour in plan to Brown for example?

I have tried changing object styles, override graphics in view, changing material colours.

All to no avail.

Thanks.

what was the specific family you loaded from the Revit Library?

hmunsell, I find the same problem with all the "counter top" families that come with RevitLT.

@RoddyAT

Material is applied to the 3D geometry/forms modeled in the family...however, in some families, namely in the plan view, the 3D elements are set to be "NOT VISIBLE"  and a 2D version consisting or a masking region and symbolic lines is added (or in some cases an imported CAD view).

In such case, no matter how you change the material, it will not show in the plan view. If you want to show the material in plan view, you need to

  1. edit the family,
  2. Select the 3D component(s) (in 3D view might be easiest)
  3. go to visibility setting of those components >> check the box visible in PLAN/RCP
  4. then in plan view, select/delete the 2D components which may mask the 3D elements
  5. Reload into project

i placed a Counter Top 24" Depth family then in the view selected VG.

  • Casework category
  • Counter Top
  • picked the lines option
  • changed the color to green

and my counter top line work turned green. if that doesn't work you my have some other category overrides or filters applied. does it only happen in a specific view or in any view? if your talking the surface pattern, try what @RDAOU  suggests.

It could be an option to assign subcategories in the family to control VG. But first thought would be the same a RDAU suggests, if you have a material associated/assigned anyway.

Thanks RDAOU,

I don't see the option to;

...then select/delete the 2D components which may mask the 3D elements.....

Can you tell me where this is please?

P.

Those don't nescessarily exist within your family.

When you have geometry in your family you can add masking regions under annotate to hide certain elements in view to control how it's shown on plan ie. Because you want to see the 3D geometry in plan, in your case you have to delete any such components which will make the worktop colour obscured in view (when present within the family).

How about you post the family in question? it would be easier to show you in a screencast

RDAOU and hmunsell, thanks very much.

I don't know why there was a "masking region" but it was blocking the colour in Plan.

I can see all my worktops in colour in plan now.

I should put @hmunsell on the payroll … I give him the solution and he does the screencasts for the credits :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht: saves me the trouble and time wasted lol

Many families, including the OOTB ones, are built with Masking regions, Filled regions, symbolic lines for plan/elevation,section presentation, the true 3D geometry only shows in 3D views.
