Changing from Construction Template to Architectural Template

I received a revit file for a building that is in the construction template. I would like to change it to an architectural template. I tried transferring project standards to a new project, but it only transferred over wall templates/details etc and not the building itself. I also tried copy/paste into a new project, but there were a bunch of errors that popped up when I pasted and it wouldn't let me click the check mark to complete the paste. Thanks so much!!

You can Transfer Project Standards from the Architectural Template to that file.  Why do you need to change it by the way?

Just tried that and it doesn't seem to have worked...I guess the main reason I'd like to change to architectural is because of the scaling/dimensioning. It's showing up as 1:100 scale and doesn't have any architectural options. This is a building I'm using for my Interior Design Thesis project, so I'm more familiar with the architectural template. Thanks for your help!

Hi

Transferring project standards from one file to another only allows types of family, view templates  colour fill schemes, text styles etc ( long list )..

It doesn't transfer the project.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. I would suggest you link " Construction based template " file to " Architectural based template " file.

and then Bind link..

bink links.JPG

This way you will get exactly what you need.. ( 3D elements ) and no 2D elements which anyways you

want to use Architectural family types, line types, graphics etc..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

or

2. Just use Architectural based template file , with link model if you are not making any changes but

using to create sheet, views etc.

Cheers!

Do you want to work on metric or imperial units?

These should work but the 1st option will destroy any Phasing configuration if Phases are used in the original model.  If there is only one Phase then it should be okay.

how do you exactly link the construction based template file to an architectural based template file via the bind link?

Hi..

Revit Template file  *.rte

Revit Project file : *.rvt

1. Create a new Project using Construction Template . . Save as " Construction.rvt

2. Link that new Revit file   " Construction.rvt "  to any other Project " rvt "

Hope that helps..

Hi Ganesh,

I think we’re talking past each other. I’ll try to be more specific.

I’m doing a project for the extension of Copenhagen airport. I want to design the site layout with detailed logistic plans.

I got the contractual model from the consultant but I’ve been told that I have to convert it to an architectural model.

First of all I want to know why I can’t work with the structural file and second of all how can I convert it to an architectural model?

Thanks again

Best regards

to give a quick backround of Revit....

Revit used to come in different Packages.. like

Revit Architecture

Revit MEP

Revit Structure etc..

1.jpg2.jpg

in recent changes, they implemented everything in one.. and those

Services are shown in " Discipline " now..

DisciplineDiscipline

now various consultants work in their respective discipline and using corresponding

template..

now.. considering Architectural Model ( Architects, Designer working ) they use

Architectural Discipline , and Consultants send their Revit Model for coordination where

you may link the Stcutural model and build Architectural around it.  and vice versa..

Structural guys will use Architectural model as a reference .. so that no once make

changes in each others model, field.

Its more of whos responsible for issuing drawings.. as an Architect you may not issue Structural , MEP, Electrical

drawings, and vice versa..

so that takes care of technical and probably legal and professional part...

in Revit terms you can merge any model and work...you can link structural model in Architectural file,

bind it and get all the elements live to make changes...but its all depends whether you are allowed or have authority

over it...

just get the scope of your work clarity and you are set....

hope that helps.

Cheers!
