Hello,

I am using the student version revit 2017. Apparently, I started my file as a template file, ".rte file" and now that I have most of my work done, I am unable to set up central model sharing for my partner to edit. Ive tried switching the extension name, by renaming to .rvt, "project file". However, when I attempt to open the file, it will not open. I get an error message stating file is not valid, and to rename back to .rte. I don't want to create a new file, or attempt to copy and paste and risk having to start over. What can I do about this?

Thank you.

  • Close out of the RTE file
  • Create a new project.  At the next window click Browse, navigate to your RTE file.  Open.
  • Make sure you check the option Project and not Project Template.
    Capture.PNG

  • When done save it and you will have a new RVT file with the content of the previously created RTE file.
