Change Work Plane to a non-parallel work plane

Good day to all!

What is the workflow for changing element's workplane to a different workplane, that is not parallel to original one?

Revit_xeDgIfFuNS.png

"Edit Work Plane" dialog only lists work planes that are parallel to the original one.
If I'm using a side view, (where I created the work plane) I cannot pick the new work plane.
If I use any other view, I cannot see the new work plane.

Not sure how, but I somehow managed to do it once (by using the same Edit Work Plane dialog).
But now, I am suddenly unable to do so in a different location.
How is this done?

You need to name the plane in order to see it on the list.

if your just placing on moving an element, Depending on how it is hosted...

  • when placing the element or after selecting it to move/copy
  • hover over the reference plane, so it highlights
  • select the Space bar

It should cycle thru different options and aligned to the reference plane.

sorry, my bad... this only works when placing, not moving an element.  you can select it, right click and pick Create Similar. then after its placed, delete the original.

Creating new element with "Create similar" works!
Thank you!

No matter. It's already named. It still does not appear on the list, if the plane is not parallel to the original plane.

Either way, a workaround was found to create new element instead of re-hosting the old one.

Try a 3D View next time.  All named Work Planes should be available there.

That's incorrect.  Here is how to pick a named plane not parallel to the original host:

- Select the face based or work plane based element

- Pick New > choose Face if you have physical Face to host

- Pick New > choose Work Plane > select one from dropdown list (the list below speaks for itself).
