Change lines behind transparent elements into dash ?

Good day, fellow Revit enthusiasts,

Today I stumped upon a matter I would like to solve, but don't know how yet. Would be glad if anyone can provide some further thoughts to look into:

I would like to change lines (material's pattern) behind the transparent families into dash lines. Is it possible?

in visual style if you choose hidden lines style you will not see those lines then you can use dashed detail line abbreviation DL dashed line style as you wish but i think you are in wireframe visual style mode that's why you see those continuous lines

please check the attached pic and accept or like my post if it helps you.

@imankassab2015

Actually I changed plumbing fixture elements to transparent, as shown below. The detail line is too manual and time consuming, which is unacceptable with a tight deadline unfortunately.

As far I know it will be a hectic work doing it by detail line DL  but the solution I got for you is not using transparency and be with hidden lines ... hope someone else has a good idea

Thanks for your advise. I'll keep it as an option

If those lines would have been model lines you could  do that by revealing hidden lines but there is no-built in option to show surface patterns of the floor dashed/hidden lines below/behind 3D components.

You either have to add them manually usind detail lines (DL) which is what iman suggested or use dynamo to automate the process.

A third alternative to @RDAOU solutions is to draft and constrain  2D lines to the geometry in the view. Then mask the 3D geometry, leaving only the 2D.

This isn't a good solution to your "time constraints" but has the advantage of following modifications to the 3d geometry when minor changes are made (ex. the wall is extended or reduced by a small distance). It will also accomodate the problem of partially hidden items like the toilet basin which will have geometry that is part hidden and visible. I would be a time consuming process for presentation drawings.

Hope this helps,

I would also suggest that the more common architectural convention is not to show the objects behind the transparent material as dashed or greyed out in your case, but to make the glass wall and door (not shown?) 100% transparent with it's linework changed to hidden.

Here is what it would look like:

This could then be achieved by a view filter and remplacements in the view template. The filter would have to be able to identify your glass wall by some type name or other parameter. Up to you to decide if the panel next to the sink should be solid or hidden lines and adjust the filter accordingly.

To get the door to appear, you would have to model the door obviously.

Hope this helps,
