Change Level of Wall based generic model??

Hi Forum,

I created a wall based generic model void family for the Openings in the structural model. It has a 3D line attached from its center downwards with a parameter to the ref. plane for the length. We use this model line to decide drive the visibility of the opening symbol in plan views. --> if we want to see it the length of the model line needs to cut the cut plane of the view range for the view. Otherwise it will not show.

This works pretty good so far, but the following problem is showing:

On one project ( and i think more will demand this)  wee need to assign every element to the correct building storey.

When placing an Opening it seems like Revit chooses the "Level" first level underneath the place opening to set for "Level". Most times this is correct but not always. The property is grayed out and can't be changed. When moving the Openings th property stays at it's original value.

Does anybody has an idea how to deal with this.

thanks a lot

Have you tried to use Window-family to make this opening? Works well in my case.123.PNG

Hi @aleksei.tkachenko,

thanks for your answer. Yes i thought about that aswel. That would be an option just like making it "face based" so i could use the same family for floorsm foundations and walls.

The catch in this case is that we already got like 200 Opeings in the model with some parameters filled out. If i change the family now i risk to do the work again or worse: loose some data.

So i am looking for some workaround.... longtime i will consider Windows category or the face based family.

Do you show each Opening on a floor plan? Or are them controlled individually?

Does this works ( see picture): the left Opening that is selected has its cutting line setup that it does not cut the cut line of the view range of the structural plan above, so it does not show. Do you know if this could work with "windows" aswell.

thanks

I have the feeling that the vertical model line in your family is the culprit.  Did you lock its bottom end to the level of the family?  Feel free to post the family and we can take a look.

Hi @ToanDN,

Sure, her you go...

I put the families inside a project where you can see the behaviour.

i'v done some testing in order to understand what level the "SA_WallOpening_...." instances will be assigned to.

here is what i think so far:

it will lbe assigned to the next level underneath where a view exists. it's still not changeable though.

thanks  in advance

If you use a face based family instead of the wall based family then you can change the associated Level, also known as Scheduled Level.

The reference they are associated with is whatever Level is associated to the Plan View you placed them in. MOVING them up or down won't change that. Instead, CUT them and then PASTE them using the Aligned to Selected Level option.

I have the exact same problem, has anyone got any new suggestions.

I can see that it works, copy-pasting the opening elements to selected levels - but I also need to change the level of existing openings.
