No option other than Delete Instance.  Are you kidding me?

Starting the new year with this crap...

Create a new ceiling type with a different material (no surface pattern) and change that ceiling to that type. The lights will stay put.

Really?!? This issue (for ceiling based families only, face/work planed based not affected) has been here as long as i started using Revit.
- Create a tile ceiling
- Place a few ceiling based lights
- Edit the ceiling assembly, edit the tile material and change the surface pattern to None

I'm disappointed. I can't replicate in 2020 using Ceiling Hosted Cans.  I do seem to recall having this issue though. Years ago.  Has it been resolved, @ToanDN  -- or am I just blessed today?

Hot Diggity Dog!  I did it!  2019.  Apparently it's fixed in 2020.2.

@kgatzke: looks like the solution is going to cost you $2,249.99 -- per year.  :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

We have 2020 and full subscriptions (don't know about our consultants) but on large projects with many team members it's a pain to upgrade, especially when there's always some deadline "next week".  Projects almost always stay in the version they started because we've never had a seamless upgrade process that didn't create a whole bunch of errors or delete a bunch of s, in fact once we couldn't upgrade one model at all.  Not even Autodesk could fix it.  Glad to hear they actually fixed a problem in the next version tho.
