central model issues

patrickmaher8BDHU_0-1730732226668.png

Having issues working on a Central model within local network - the above error keeps popping up when trying to work on the central

I have tried an audit - detach and set up as a new central but nothing seems to work

Any suggestions

I'm not sure if you actually work in the Central Model, but that's a BIG no-no.

The message you get is pretty much self explanatory. Someone has deleted an element from the central file. If you get this message, it simply means you're working with an outdated local file. Synchronize or Reload Latest to remedy the error.

We had been working in Central for a couple months now with no issues - project is just after tender stage

A new user started with us last week and this issue keeps popping up now - not sure where we are going wrong

Again tried detaching and setting up a new Central - making sure we are opening as a local copy each time

We are stumped on whats going on as everything had been running smoothly up until now

Switch on Audit if you open the file and when loaded, synchronize. See if that remedies the problem.

OK, you are not working directly in the Central Model if you are creating local copies. When you navigate to the location of the project, there is an option in the dialog box about 'create a new local' - I hope you are seeing this!

Sometimes that error will come up if users have not synced their model in a long time. All uses should sync with central at least once every half hour (if not more frequently!)

I would try running the audit as suggested. Try and run an audit at least once a week (more if you remember). You can only perform an audit when you first open the file.

Make sure to also Compact the Central File at least once a month.

Apologies this is what i should have said,

We are ensuring the Create new Local check box is ticked each time

I  have tried the Audit option also

I have detached the model for now so i can keep working on it

We will set up a new Central model from this model this evening and go from there

Im sure there is a simple solution to this i just cant get my head around it - & the project is moving at pace at the same time so we need to keep progressing

Thanks for your Help

That message means your file is out of sync with the central file version. A Reload Latest or Sync w Central should update your local file. You'll find that view is gone afterward because it was deleted by another user, Revit knows it is gone but your local file hasn't been reloaded/sync'd yet so you can see that it is gone in the browser.

It doesn't seem to sort it for us - im not sure whats going on - we had been working away with no issues for the last couple of months

Model works perfectly when one user is working - problem arises when another user jumps in to work on a separate part of the model

Most common errors are - You do not have permission to edit this element & element was deleted in the central model

Make sure you're all using the same Revit build.

We Double checked the build - i was on an earlier version - i have updated but same issue pop up

We are still having the same errors constantly when two users trying to work at the same time

Elements were deleted in central model or do not have permission to edit element or syncing issues

We are both up to date - reloading latest saving local and syncing with central every 5 - 10 minutes

Making it impossible to get anything done

I dont understand as we had been wotking as a team for the past couple of months with a number of users jumping in and out working on various packages throughout the projects lifetime - only in the last week we have been having the issue.

we have tried to decentralize model - saving a new copy and setting it back up ( messy) but nothing seems to work tried all of your suggestions above

I wonder is it a mapping back to central issue? we are working on a local network - although that wouldnt explain how we were previously working with no issues

Completely stumped as to whats going on

Any help is greatly appreciated

Check the History of the model (tab Collaborate > section Manage Models; select the Central File). This should present an overview of sync operations by user / time.

Tell us more about your network.

If each workstation is mapped to the server differently then that IS a problem for syncing local files. For example if your "P" drive (project folder) is mapped to your computer using the UNC convention of \\Server\Folder\Project and the other user(s) is mapped via IP address then Revit thinks you are looking for a different file than the others...and sync issues occur. All PC's for a given project should use the same mapping format to access the projects via your server.

If your network spans different office locations then that is an entirely different kind of problem and won't work without some dedicated replication server equipment and tech...like Revit's Revit Server or a 3rd party solution that explicitly supports worksharing via a WAN. or use Autodesk's Cloud Hosting...
