Ceiling Legend

Good Day!

How can I change the view from section to plan view (it is not in the drop down menu) in creating the ceiling legend?

Please see attached image for reference.

Thanks!

Hello, I think not possible. this is one of the shortcoming of Revit up to version 2017. Thanks

You would be best using the 'Phase Legend' approach - this involves modelling elements of the ceiling in a phase before any existing or new construction.  You then create a view to show these and you can tag the ceilings as required and apply the appropriate view template.

there's plenty of info out there already on this if what I've written above doesn't make sense...

In general terms we don't bother with Revit legends anymore for anything other than block of text.

@Keith_Wilkinson has mentioned a good workaround.  I am using the same approach.

Here is another one I used to use before switching to the Phase Legend:

Create a Generic model family with a Material Type parameter.  Load in project and create different types with different material to mimic your ceilings.  Use them for Legend.

I personally disagree with that approach of the fake annotation phase. I prefer not to have any model elements floating around in the models if these elements are not going to be built (except by volumes of clearances, and other few special things). I prefer other solutions. Like Toandn's solution above; simple and efficient. Or, another solution, simple, is to make a schedule of ceiling types, and add an image to the schedule. Simple, efficient, without creating extra model elements in the project that do not really exist in the project and are not going to be built.

There are pros and cons to any of these solutions and until the issue of legends is addressed in the core program it's always going to be the case.

What i I like about the phase legend approach is that everything is taggable and can be controlled with the same view template which guarantees consistency as the project develops. The way I view it is simply as a samples board of what will be used in the final construction.

Anyway,

It is CRUCIAL, ESSENTIAL and IMPERATIVE that Autodesk ADRESSES this problem. How funny is it to have a program that controls visibility but does not allow to display the ways this controls work???

Autodesk, I have ONE question for you: WHEN???

When will this be solved???

Thanks a lot, but this is URGENT.

In the legend, draw a filled region square --> Edit Type --> Foreground Fill pattern --> Select pattern type "Model" , and your ceiling should be there

This is true… until the moment I change a design choice and hence select another pattern in my material. I have to change my legend manually in that case. And that is not the meaning of Revit. I could also draw some lines manually...

Exactly - this again is why the phase legend approach is more reliable and more 'BIM'.  As long as the inherent 'legends' in Revit remain 'dumb' we're going to be stuck with workarounds.
