Ceiling (bottom of soffit) not joining to Wall properly

I have read through several similar posts but they are not working...... Early on in the model I was not having any issues with the graphics. But now I am seeing a line in either elevation view or ceiling plan view..... My process is to sketch the ceiling material and then draw a wall with its base offset at the same elevation as the ceiling. Then use the join command in a 3d view and Bodabing! Clean joints in all views. Until they all weren't anymore.... attached are some screen shots. If I "switch join order" the line switches to the plan view instead of the elevation. any ideas as to why this started happening?

Are you talking about the finish join condition at the soffit wall and ceiling in section.  Add a Base Extension to wall. Then you can drop the wall finish layer to meet the finish layer of the ceiling.

I'm not too concerned about the section view. We have details of this typical condition so that won't really matter too much. But I will look into this. Is it an instance based fix? 

What is really bothering me is the graphic display in plan or elevation view. For example see the elevation.png attachment in my original post. There is a double line. It was cleaning up nicely (just showing the bottom line) and not showing up until today.... I use the process we were taught in training. I described it my original post.

Yah, sorry, guy.  Don't see anything weird in your Elevation.png.  The only thing that sticks out to me, is the wall-to-ceiling join in Section View.  What's this "technique" you were taught?  Using the Linework tool maybe?  That would work on a per view basis.

Look at the elevation drawing again. I circled a line in red. That is the top of the ceiling assembly showing through the face of the vertical wall portion that makes up the soffit. That line should not be there. The line below it is the bottom plane of the soffit and is showing properly. 

The process is following:

Using a ceiling family I created for soffits (Basically same as the "GWB on Mtl. Std.") I sketch the area of the soffit. The Height offset from level is 7'-6" in this example. 

Then I use a wall family that is GWB only on one side of the mtl. std. core. I set my line location at Finish Face. I set the base offset at the same height as the ceiling (7'-6" for this one). I draw it snapping to the edge of the ceiling assembly. 

Then I switch to a 3D view to view it. It will have a double line on the vertical and horizontal face. In the modify tab I select the Join Geometry tool. Then select the ceiling assembly and then the wall assembly and it cleans up the double lines and all that is left is the bottom corner where a gyp. bd. corner is...

It has been working and displaying properly in all views until earlier today....

Why shouldn't that line be there? I think it should.  Look at your Section View.  Seems evident where that line is coming from.  Use the approach I described above, and that offensive line work will disappear.  Guaranteed.

Thanks ToanDN. This is usually my experience as well. I am going to check the model again today. Last night I noticed that the elevation in question was now displaying properly..... And I had not touched it...... But i noticed that some other elevations were now creating the double line....... SMH... I am now wandering if it is actually a graphic interface display glitch that self resolves. I will update later today to see if it resolves itself. Thank you for looking into it.

Top photo: Wall and Ceiling are joined (really), but interior edge between them is not removed. (Note: 3D Section Box in View does not cut elements.) 

Bottom photo: Same Wall and Ceiling, but 3D Section Box cuts through both. Now Wall and Ceiling look joined (e.g. interior edge between them are removed.

Base extension distance is greyed out and I've tried all kinds of different modifications to the wall, it stays greyed out. What am I missing here?

You don't need to mess with base extension in order to have a clean soffit.  Use Join Geometry.

By the way, base/top extensions are set in the wall type properties.

It wasn't unlocking for me, I actually had to zoom WAY IN to that corner and it finally let me unlock it, thanks.
