Has anyone used the casework family built-in parameter named "Construction Type"? I can't find any help information about it?

Not sure what help do you need... it's just a text built-in parameter for you to enter whatever information you need, or leave it blank if you don't need. I use it to indicate Site Built or Factory Built.
1. Whether anyone is using it and how? I've got one response so far. I guess other possibilities are "Modular, "Custom", etc. but it would seem that that's covered in the Omniclass number. The only mention of it in Revit help files is in relationship to heating and cooling analysis.
2. Why is it built in?
3. Why is it that none of the Revit casework families actually use it or have example entries for it?

So there are more than one ways to do things for maximum flexibilty? Omniclass is a standard base numbering system and is read-only. Some projects don't need or want it because of the project size or regional standards.

Construction Types for Energy Analysis is for the entire building, totally different from the parameter you found in a casework family.

So you don't need to create an family parameter or shared parameter.

It's for users to enter depends on what they need. Why should Autodesk enter some information that users can later complain that is useless for them? and they have to delete it
You know, there are bunch of in-built Text Parameters for you to put more "I" into your "BIM". For instance, all the Identity Data Parameters. Use them as you see fit - or not. We don't use them all. Some we use differently than was probably imagined.
Thanks to both. I'm still puzzzled though, why they would provide the non-deletable parameter without some suggestions about the rational and benefits for having it, other than an empty box to fill for whatever.

Like I said above, there is no hard and fast rules on how you should use the "In-Built" Shared Parameters. Research "Shared Parameters" to learn more. Steve Stafford's Blog ~ Revit OpEd - is a great place to start.

On the contrary, I always wish they added more built-in parameters to minimize the nuisance of shared parameters.

I agree! More of the Instance-kind like Mark and Comments.
I'm fine with them being built-in.... but I sure wish we had the option to remove them from projects.
Agree that shared parameters are a nuisance.
