I imported a Rhino6 file into Revit as a dwg file by linking a CAD file, however, I cant apply materials to it I can apply materials through the object styles manager, but nothing happens its still the default material.
If I import the same file by components>model in place>link CAD file, then I am able to add a materials parameter to it, but same issue where nothing changes after applying the material.
Anyone know a solution for this?

Hi @NAUMES
Could you possibly upload the Rhino file in your reply, or even a portion of it? Also please make sure that each material in the rhino model is associated with a unique layer, i.e. Trunk, foliage, grass. Cheers
Hi, @joe_keogh ,
I've attached the dwg file where my topography was imported from. I would upload the original Rhino file but I cannot upload 3dm. files. I did not assign a material to the model in Rhino since I am rendering through revit/enscape. I will upload my revit file as well in another reply.
Thank you
How do I do this? Is this something I should do within Rhino?
First when you link it in, click on the VV and object style. Then click on the material and replace the asset. Result is you will get the grass material.
The forum is acting up again. I replace this render material 38-0-0. You can change to by layer in CAD so the grass will read correctly. If there is an override in AutoCAD layer, you have to track which material that apply to that.
@barthbradley I feel like I am trying to do the same thing but something is off. I need to insert drawings from an online 3D model library, this company offers free conversions but doesn't have Revit. I only have Rhino5 and Revit. I want to apply materials to a few different areas. When I opened it in Rhino the layers are great! I down size the file and polysurfaces and import as a dwg. but then theres no mass?
What am I missing?
I can't seem to separate the materials and assign them individually or they stay gray. I seem to be missing a link. I am importing files from turbosquid and converting from rhino to dwg, saving as family, changing materials. I have tried to import small pieces, change colors. Please help
Upload the file so we can take a look.
Thanks so much!!
I looked at the CAD. It seems like there is no mesh. Also since the object is set to one layer, you might as well create layers and place the object in the layer. Revit will only split material base on layers.
is there a video to explain this? I don't have CAD, just Revit and Rhino5. I have a few versions of the sofa, some with meshes on pillows. What I dont understand is how to divide them. Looking at the render you can see I have the chair as one, sofa as one and pillows in another material. I just dont know how I did that exactly and how I can make sure I do it correctly
Just upload the Rhino file
it won't let me attach the 3dm Rhino file, this is a zip file of one of the chairs. When I open each file in Rhino I export the selected layer and change the color of the layer, convert into a dwg and open it in revit. Apply the material per your advise in the thread before. Repeat for each. I just don't understand why I can't separate the two on some pieces, frame and sofa the same but pillows different.
hope this explains it better
