Cannot re-path a central file

We are trying to re-path a central file to a model that has been worked on remotely by an intern, outside of our server. We are getting error messages saying the local file is not compatible with the central. Both files are in version 2018.  How can we merge the two models back to one and sync all changes from one model to the other without having to copy/paste changes from one to the other?

i dont think it is possible to merge two separate models. You can make one central file, and create new local from that.

The work performed while disconnected from the central file on your server is "lost" unless their work is the only new work on the model. If true you can create a new central file from the intern's version and have everyone else create a new local file from that new central.

If both versions have been worked on, both in the office and out of it, then you might be able to copy/paste work that was done outside of the office. For example, if they worked on drafting views (detailing) those views can be brought into the office version of the central file. Similar is true if the intern added new walls/doors, those can be copied/pasted into the office version. If they added tags and dimensions to existing elements then those will have to be created over again in the office file.
