Cannot place model components

Cannot place model components

I suddenly cannot place any model components in my model. It will let me draw walls and model lines, but I cannot place a door, window, toilet, etc. Revit is not giving my any error messages, it just shows the cursor as a circle with a slash through it. I have checked that my workplane is set to the level I am on. Any ideas?

That symbol also means "cannot find appropriate host".  When you try to place a door, are you hovering mouse near an appropriate host wall?

A Basic Wall or Curtain Wall?

It is a basic wall.  It will let me place it in a 3D view, but not a plan view. In a plan view I can copy a door from one place on the wall to another place on the wall.

I have now discovered that the level associated to the floor plan view is not the floor's correct level (junior staff...), but my searching shows that I cannot re-associate the view to another level.  So I am thinking that the wall-hosted components are defaulting to the level that the view is set to, which is way below the actual floor level. You cannot change the level of those elements until after you've placed them.  The level I want does not show up in the list of plan views from the View tab > Plan Views > Floor Plan list. Is there a way to make a new view that is at the correct level?

I think I solved the problem - un-checking the "Do not duplicate existing views" button lets me make another plan for that level, and now the new one is associated to the correct level. I still don't know how the previous plan ended up associated to the wrong level, but regardless, I can now place my components!

Sounds like a Plan View for that Level already exists.  Anyway, untick "Do not Duplicate".

Misnamed.  That's all.
