I'm trying to export a RENDERED walkthrough to no avail. The render stalls out and never goes past 0% completion....I've successfully exported a small segment of the entire walkthrough about two months ago but now, its not working at all.
I've tried every possible solution and tip that's out there: clearing temp folder, exporting to img, making sure hardware acceleration is on, chopping up the walkthrough (0% complete after leaving overnight for 10 frames @12 frames per sec), etc.
The walkthough does export when I switch to any mode besides rendered.
Anyone got a clue? Is the amount of trees / cars / incidents I have in the model? From personal experience, coplanar surfaces really bogs down the rendering. Could that be the issue?
Thanks!

have you tried using another workstation?
Dzan Ta, AEE, ASM, ACI.

Hi @Anonymous
What format are you exporting to - AVI or image file?

For those using a Nvidia Quadro M4000 graphics card, setting CUDA - GPUs to 'None' seems to work.
I'm only testing out this setting over 10 frames. I'll post an update tomorrow morning after testing it over 300 frames.
Hi @Anonymous
Just checking back on this issue, were you able to export successfully?

Yes! I was able to export a rendered walkthrough by adjusting the Nvidia setting. The export was only 10 frames. I'll post an update tomorrow after exporting the entire animation.
Thanks!
Hi @Anonymous
That sounds good!
Looking forward to your update.![]()

Unfortunately I'm running into another problem...there seems to never be enough RAM for rendering a walkthrough.
The rendering stopped about 1/4 of the way through (78/300 frames @ 15fps, 1600x1200 resolution, AVI). For this workstation, It needed more than the 16GB of RAM that was available.
I also noticed that as the rendering progressed, the amount of RAM it used also increased (initial baseline of RAM usage was 11GB).
I'm now rendering the walkthrough on another workstation with only 12GB of RAM. The rendering's been going for 4 hours but only managed to render 28 frames. However it looks like the RAM usage is hovering around 10GB.
Hi @Anonymous
Sorry to hear that you are facing issues with the export. That is a lotttt of RAM![]()
I was able to look up some solutions for you!![]()
To improve speed and performance when generating walkthrough renderings, you can try the following: (since your updates are all in place, I suggest you look at points 3,4 and 5)
1. Keep your Revit version up-to-date
Apply the most current updates or service packs for Revit. Download from your Autodesk Account. Can also check here for service packs: Autodesk Download Finder
2. Simplify the walkthroughs and settings
The speed is going to be dependent on the number of frames/second, the Visual Style being used, etc. Try different settings here. Also doing shorter walkthroughs and then splicing the videos is a consideration
3. Beef up the hardware
Using SSDs can help performance. Increasing RAM is often a good idea. Here’s a recommended AU class/whitepaper on the topic of hardware: IT21325: A Hardware Wonk's Guide to Specifying the Best 3D and BIM Workstations—2016 Edition
4. Consider using 3DS Max in your workflow
Here are some AU classes on that:
AB5204: Rendering and Animation for Building Design with 3ds Max
AV9943-L: Mastering 3ds Max Basics, from Beginner to Final Render
5. Consider using Autodesk LIVE
If you haven’t discovered Autodesk LIVE yet, it’s certainly worth investigating. Not only can it do walkthroughs fast, it allows for dynamic walkthroughs and explorations rather than a pre-scripted, pre-pathed walkthroughs. Here’s additional information on LIVE.

Regarding wanting to render walkthroughs in the cloud, that suggestion has been posted as a Revit Idea. You can vote it up here: A360 Cloud Rendering Walkthrough for Revit
