Cannot copy filled regions from project to family?

I assume this is impossible, but I don't know why.

I have a complex existing eave detail that was created with fill regions and needs to show up in 15 or so different drawings (wall sections, enlarged details). It needs to look consistent in all drawings and it may need to be tweaked after field verification.  I know using groups isn't best practice but if I can't get it to be a detail family, seems like that's my only option.

I don't have autocad for some kind of workaround. I tried to group it and save the group as an .rfa but I only have .rvt as an option....

It is possible. Create an in place model under the same category of teh family, draw the regions in there, copy and you can paste them to the external family.

You can't copy the region, but you can copy the Sketch Lines.

  • Edit your region in the project
  • Select all the sketch lines and copy to clipboard
  • In the family start a new region
  • Paste the sketch lines.
  • Finish region

if your just looking to get the patterns used on the project into a family use Transfer Project Standards. open the project and one of the families in the same session of Revit.

  • in the family select Modify ribbon > Settings panel > Transfer project standards
  • pick the project from the copy from
  • pick Check None
  • pick the Fill Patterns option.

this should copy the fill patterns from the project into the family. then you can use them as needed.

Reviving this:

Would there be a reason a fill region pattern would not transfer over to from the project to the family using the Transfer Project Standards?

@barthbradley

Its a fill pattern that we are using for a filled region. We have some annotation families that we use for legends, and I'm trying to get a specific fill pattern from a project into the annotation family to put into the legend. It's a basic pattern that can be recreated, however I'd like to know why it isn't working for future reference in case it is not a basic pattern. When I use the Transfer Project Standards, it brings over many of the patterns, but not all of them, including the one I am trying to use. Would there be a reason a fill pattern would not transfer with this method?

Not sure if this is new since 2020 but you can do Transfer Project Standards under the Mange Tab.  Open both families.  Go the family you want the fill pattern to go into.  Select Tranfer Project Standards if you have more in 2 files open you will have to select what project/family you want to pull the fill pattern from.  I then unchecked everything but FILL PATTERNS and thats it.

NEVERMIND I should have scrolled down more I see "hmunsell" already addressed it in that same manor.
