Can you have a formula in Family Description?

Is it possible to put a formula in for a description. If so please provide example.

If I had a parameter called size I would like the formula to read This is item size "size" ie size=4 thus This is item size 4

No. Description is a text (alphanumeric) field which cannot be used as condition in formulas. Such formula needs to be based on a numeric value such as number or integer

Otherwise, you might want to look into type catalogs or size lookup tables

Maybe you can use something similar to this approach to get there:

@barthbradley probably quicker to just type the description then using if formula with 100 of iterations when trying to input a size of object based on 2 parameters ie "X x Y". but suppose your solution would resolve.

Would be handy if could input something like parameter X() "x" parameter Y() whereby the () part would use that parameters value

Depending on where you need that information you could follow different routes.

You can build up a type catalog with excel or similar (and then use formulas).

If you need it in a project you could do something with Dynamo.

Apparently neither Type Catalogs nor Look Up tables from the previous reply made any sense to you!!!

Anyhow, these are what you use when you have 100s of iterations and do not want to type the description in every time you use the family
